Clinic of Horrors

I read today the most horrific of new stories that I have read in a long time.  Dr. Kermit Gosnell ran Women’s Medical Society in West Philadelphia.  A grand jury has indicted him and nine of his employees for the murder of one woman and seven infants.  One of his employees was a 15-year-old girl who handled the anesthesia.  Yes, you read that right, a 15-year-old.

Women’s Medical Society was an abortion clinic, but the good Doctor seemed to make his money in the illegal kind.  There were atrocious conditions found in the clinic when it was raided last March.  Cat feces on the floor, broken or malfunctioning equipment, non-sterilized instruments.  Sound awful?  Oh, but it gets worse, much worse.  Aborted fetuses stuffed in jars and bags, severed feet of babies lining shelves.

Gosnell induced labor in women who were 6, 7 and 8 months pregnant to ‘abort’ and when a live infant was delivered he severed their spinal cords with scissors.  Most of his patients were illegal immigrants who may have felt they had nowhere else to go, like Karnamaya Mongar from Nepal who died at Gosnell’s hands.

And now, of course, anti-abortion activists are playing the ‘SEE!  SEE!!  Told you abortion was horrible!’  Some dumbass commented on a news article with the idea that if it hadn’t been for Roe v. Wade Gosnell probably would have become a painter.  Really??  That is genius.  I’m thinking that if things had turned out differently in 1973 they would have found many more dead bodies at the Women’s Medical Society.

I am pro-choice.  Always, have been, always will be.  I will never say that abortion is a happy, fun filled experience that everyone should enjoy.  I will say that every woman has the choice to make the decision on whether to carry a child and she has the right to receive care that is safe.  She has the right to put herself in the care of a doctor and believe that barring any extreme circumstance she will live through the procedure.

I hope Gosnell dies a slow and painful death.
